E. Gerald Hanes

E. Gerald Hanes, 89, passed away March 27, 2008 in San Antonio, TX. He was born in Akron on March 8, 1919 to the late Rev. Calvin and Saloma Hanes.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he served as a Sergeant in the 34th Infantry "Red Bull" Division in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. He retired from the US Postal Service, was a life member of the Church of God
and was a member of Mensa.

Gerald was also recognized in Ripley's Believe It or Not for having the world's largest razor blade collection. Further, he was an avid bowler, reader, and traveler and he loved entering contests.

Preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and Howard, he is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy; sister, Doris Wells; children, Martha Panter, Ernie (Mary Ann), Tom, of Tempe, AZ, Tim (Dorothy), Patty (Chuck) Allen and Jeff,
of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Nancy, Monty, Steve (Laura), Nathan, Dustin Isaac, Tiffany, Jessica, Tricia and Anthony; great-grandchildren, Thomas, Eric, Ava, Makenzi, Jaden, Jared and Merideth; great-great grandchildren, Devyn, Alexcis and Sylas; and numerous other relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 4, 2008, at 11 a.m., at the Tallmadge First Church of God, 464 Northeast Ave., Tallmadge, OH 44278, with Pastor William C. Wimmer officiating. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial
Park, where military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 281. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 3, at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home and Chapel, 760 E. Market St., from 4 - 7 p.m., and for one
hour prior to the funeral at the church.
