H. Albert "Al" Elias

H. Albert "Al" Elias, 85, went to be with the Lord December 29, 2005. Born in Charleston, WV, he was a lifelong Akron resident and was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 35th Artillery. He retired from Goodyear Aerospace with 25 years in the traffic department, and also worked for the B & O Railroad and for ACE Trucking. He was an active member of The Chapel, serving as the church secretary, as a deacon, and as a Sunday School teacher with Forrest Stein for over 20 years. He also was an avid local baseball player, having won the City Championship with Garfield in 1939, and later playing for Canton Road Furniture, Sahara Dry and other teams.

Preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Pearl, he is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lorraine; daughters, Sharon (Jud) Crosby, of GA, Barbara (Michael) Moneypenny and Joyce (Jack) Hartman; grandchildren, Sabrina, Ashley and Justin; sister-in-law, Jean Stickles; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2006, at 11 a.m., at the Eckard Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, 760 E. Market St., with Rev. Jim Dull officiating. Interment with military honors at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 3, from 4 - 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation 1501 N.W. 9th Avenue/Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL 33136-1494, the Senior Independence, 1815 W.
