In Loving Memory

Donna M. File

Donna M. File, 74, went Home to be with her Lord and Saviour on June 30, 2005 as the result of a severe brain hemorrhage she suffered on June 22 exactly 10 years to the day after her husband died.

The light of Christ was evident in her life. Donna freely gave of her time and talents to help those in need and her community.

Until several days ago, she was mowing lawns for elderly friends, serving 50 years as band manager and bass drummer/percussionist for the Goodyear Concert Band, and serving the Lord for more than 30 years as a Bible Study Group leader for The Chapel where she was also a member.

Donna arranged hundreds of free Goodyear Band concerts in the Akron area for Salvation Army, urban housing developments, nursing homes, churches, and parks. These old fashioned "concerts in the park" delivered a sweet slice of Americana to fans of all ages.

Her previous work experience included service as administrative assistant at Summit County Home and Kent State University.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Steve; sisters, Janet (John) Farkas and Dorothy (Ralph) Timmins; brother, Kenneth Swartz; brother-in-law William Sinclair.

Donna is survived by son, Steven (Lauri) File of Fairlawn; sisters, Doris Swartz of Akron, Norma (Bill) Hise of Texas; brothers, Jim Swartz of Tallmadge, Glen Swartz of Akron; sisters-in-law, Grace Badstuber of Florida, Helen Torbico of Waverly, and Mary Swartz of Youngstown; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many close friends throughout the area.

Celebration of Life services at the Eckard Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, 760 E. Market St., will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, with Rev. Eloy Pacheco officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Haven of Rest Rescue Mission, 175 E. Market St., Akron, OH., 44308; Furnace Street Mission/Victim Assistance Program, 150 Furnace St., Akron, OH., 44304; or The Chapel, 135 Fir Hill, Akron, OH., 44304.
