Marla Kay "Mickey" Border, 82, passed away peacefully January 16, 2018. She was born in Bath, Ohio to the late Kenneth and Dorothy (Hostetler) Powers and was a long-time active member of Family of Faith United Methodist Church.
Active in her community, she led three Girl Scout Troops, volunteered for Goals for Greater Akron, the PTA, and the World Series of Golf. She was a member of the Jaycee Wives and sewed costumes for several high school productions. A devoted homemaker, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be missed.
Preceded in death by her husband, Jack and granddaughter, Tara, she is survived by her children, Nancy (Mike) Schafer, Barbara (Richard) Essig, Denise Reitz and Kathy (Hal) Clossman; grandchildren, Luke, MeiChen, Kelly, Erin, Daniel, Caitlin and Cindy; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; brother, Richard Powers; sister-in-law, Joyce Border; special cousin Linda Hostetler; and many other loving relatives and friends.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home and Chapel, 760 E. Market St. The funeral service will be on Friday, January 19 at 11 a.m. at Family of Faith, 800 E. Market St., with Pastor Ron Shultz officiating. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service, from 10 - 11 a.m. Interment at Hartville Mt. Peace Cemetery.
