William G. Usrey, 93, passed away peacefully November 15, 2017. He was born in Dukedom, TN to the late Jack and Gladys (Powell) Usrey and was an Akron resident since 1942. He was a proud Army veteran of World War II, becoming a POW when his B-17 bomber got shot down in Germany. He also retired from Ohio Bell with 37 years of service.

Bill was active in the community as a member of the Telephone Pioneers, the Munroe Falls Masonic Lodge # 287 where he earned his 50-year pin and the Lions Club. He also volunteered for Toys of Love.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; brother, Finis; and granddaughter, Samantha Rae. He is survived by his sons, Gordon (wife Diane), Duane (wife Susan); grandchildren, Michael (wife Brittany), Meagan, Monica (husband Dan), Bryan (wife Kaylin); and great-grandchild, Addie.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 22 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home and Chapel, 760 E. Market St. The funeral service will immediately follow at 12:00 pm, with Rev. Michael Usrey officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Brookdale Hospice, 24500 Center Ridge Rd Westlake, OH  44145.
