Albert W. Nitz, 80, passed away June 26, 2019. He was born in Akron on March 21, 1939 to the late Albert C. and Elsie (Klabbatz) and was a 1958 graduate of Buchtel High School and a 1968 graduate of Judson College. Al was a veteran of the US Navy and retired from the Haven of Rest as facilities manager with 26 years of faithful service. He taught 5th grade at Channing Elementary in Elgin, IL, District U46, from 1974-1982. He was a nightwatchman for D.C. Cook Publishing in Elgin, IL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Jean; brothers, Paul and Virgil; and sisters, Elizabeth and Kathleen. He is survived by his son, Daryl; daughter, Sally; sister, Donna; sister-in-law, Mary Kay (John) Warlop; and brothers-in-law, Dale Starkey and Richard McDowell. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home and Chapel, 760 E. Market St. Calling hours will be at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service, from 10 – 11 a.m. Burial with military honors at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Haven of Rest, 175 E. Market St., Akron, OH 44308.
