Mann Dwight McGee, 100, of Akron, OH, went to his heavenly home on Friday, September 15, 2017.

He was born on September 10, 1917 in Lewisville, Ark. He met his beautiful wife, Nerine, when they were teenagers, and they were married on March 9, 1940.

In the 1930’s Dwight enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps, and helped build roads and bridges for the government. Once he and Nerine married they owned a small gas station in Lewisville, Ark. Dwight then took a job with the railroad. In 1945 he and Nerine decided to move to Akron, Ohio because of the better job opportunities, and he worked for General Tire until he retired.

Dwight and Nerine were longtime, respected and greatly loved members of the Apostolic Church of Barberton where he served many years as a board member, and held various other positions. He was a very friendly man with a ready smile, and he never met a stranger. He would invite people to church often, and loved to talk about the Lord. His most prized possession was his Bible which he read daily. He loved his grandkids very much, and always kept gum in his pockets to hand out to them. Dwight especially had a heart for young people, and was quick to dispense encouragement and a pat on the back.

Dwight was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Nerine Hudman McGee; his mother, Lizzie Williams Warren McGee; father, George John McGee; brothers, J.W. McGee and Vance McGee; daughter in-law, Laura McGee; granddaughter in-law, Carol McGee, and many other family members and friends.

Left to cherish his memory are his three sons and their spouses; Larry and Linda McGee, Roy and Darlene McGee, and John and Nancy McGee; grandchildren, Larry Edwin McGee, Tammy (Joe) Kaczynski, Lisa (Rodney) Yeargin, Matthew McGee, Cathi (Steve) Ord, Annette (Mark) Fuller, Jeff (Kellie) McGee, Kelly McGee, and Mark (Cuquis) McGee; step-grandchildren, Teri (Bob) Grizer, Melani Tate, Tim Cook, Jeffrey (Michelle) Cook, Aaron (Brittney) Gross, and Theresa Marshment. He also had 17 great-grandchildren, 12 step great-grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren, and 5 step great-great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at 7 p.m. at the Apostolic Church of Barberton, 1717 Turkeyfoot Lake Road, Barberton, OH 44203. Bishop Nelson Pamer, Senior Pastor Rod Pamer and Pastor Paul Pamer will be officiating. The family will receive friends preceding the service from 6-7 p.m.
