Merle Virginia Young (nee Pollard), age 89, went home to be with the Lord on April 29, 2017.  She was born on December 17, 1927, in Akron, Ohio, to Otis and Dona (Miller) Pollard.

Merle grew up in Goodyear Heights with three older sisters.  She attended Seiberling Elementary School and graduated from East High School in 1945 as class salutatorian.  Next came marriage to the boy next door, Howard (Fred) Young on December 7, 1946.  Fred and Merle had 47 years together, raising a family in Cuyahoga Falls.

Late in life, Merle had a second, happy marriage to Melvin Frank of Niles, Ohio.

Merle is survived by her daughter, Janet (James) Kershaw, son, Daniel (Bridget) Young, and daughter-in-law, Diane F. Young; beloved grandchildren, Jeffrey (Kyllan) Kershaw, Jennifer (Donald) Day, Brian (Kate) Young, Katherine Young, and Andrew Young; four precious great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Fred Young and Melvin Frank; dearly beloved son, Donald; sisters, Thelma Hottle, Helen Mick, and Ruth Bradley; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Robert and Irene Young, Richard Young, James Young, Orvis Hottle, Roy Mick, and Oliver Bradley.

The funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at 12 noon at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home & Chapel, 760 East Market Street, Akron, Ohio 44305. Calling hours will be held immediately preceding the funeral from 11 a.m. - 12 noon.  Interment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mulberry Gardens Assisted Living in Munroe Falls for their compassionate care during Merle’s final years.  In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Haven of Rest Ministries, 175 East Market Street, Akron, Ohio 44308.
