Richard V. Zurz Sr., 88, passed away October 14, 2018. He was born in Barberton to the late Vincent and Agnes (Yankovich) and enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the field of law.
He graduated from the Ohio Northern University Law School in 1953 and was in private practice until being appointed judge of the Summit County Court of Common Pleas in 1974, where he served until 1991. He returned to private practice in 1992 when he joined Blakemore, Meeker & Bowler.
Judge Zurz was an avid golfer, a long-time member of Prestwick Country Club and a former member of Firestone CC. He played in the Tournament of Champions pro-am for many years, several times beating the pro he was paired with.
Preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Georgia, he is survived by his children, LeeAnn (Mark) Gorman, DeeAnn Zurz and Richard Jr. (Kimberly); grandchildren, Matthew, Lauren (Sean) Zalesny, Callie and Kyle; and great-grandchildren, Ava, Tyler and Carter.
A memorial gathering to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 from 5 - 7 p.m. at Prestwick Country Club, 3751 Glen Eagles Blvd, Uniontown, OH 44685. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your favorite charity in his memory.
