Ronald R. Hughes, 70, passed away peacefully January 8, 2018. He was born in Akron to the late Charles and Pauline (Sheakley) Hughes and was a beloved member of the Weaver Workshop in Tallmadge, where he worked for many years and had no desire to retire.

Ron was an avid bowler, participating in the Special Olympics, and was a kind soul who loved people and making others happy.  He also enjoyed old television shows, especially classic westerns.  A member of The Chapel, Ron was involved in a small group and when able, he volunteered in the disability class.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Darlene. He is survived by many loving cousins and friends; his caregiver and dear friend, Andrea; and special friends; Ray, Sue, John and Liz who were his second family.  He looked forward to visiting to his cousin Dave and Sheila for family gatherings.  The family would like to give special thanks to his doctors who took very good care of Ron; Dr. Taliwah; Dr. Espiritu; and Dr. Chokan, who all did an excellent job and developed a special bond.  Also, want to thank Renee, Henry, and the doctors and staff at St. Thomas Wound Center; as well as Cindy, who faithfully came 7 days a week for years, providing exceptional care.  They had a great relationship and he appreciated her dedication and compassion – I think it’s safe to say he loved her as well.  Our hearts are broken as you will be missed dearly, but we know you are complete and rejoicing in Heaven.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 from 4 – 6 p.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home and Chapel, 760 E. Market St. The funeral service will be at the funeral home on Saturday, January 13th at 10 a.m.  Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park.
