Virginia O. Hinkle, 101, passed away December 4, 2018. She was born in Gay, WV to the late Clem H. and Mae Mathews and lived most of her life in Akron.
Virginia was a graduate of East High School, was a Rosie the Riveter during World War II and worked for many years at Polsky’s. She enjoyed living in the Silver Lake Towers for over 20 years, was a member of the Bunko Club and loved to cook.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; daughter, Paula Sutherland; and sister, Ruth White. She is survived by her daughter, Debra (Fred) Bettes; grandchildren, Stacie (Mike) Bodish, Amy Bettes, Lisa (Ryan) Smith, and Carrie and Daune Sutherland; 7 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Gary Sutherland; nieces, Christie Kaufman and Cathy Kondik; and cousin, Helen Rumburg.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 2 p.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home and Chapel, 760 E. Market St. Calling hours will be at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service, from 1 – 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Virginia’s name to the Alzheimers Association.
