I grew up in Akron, Ohio and went to Garfield High School. My one brother Charles Ross (killed in WWII in Italy, 1944) according to my sister Martha Ross was a good friend of Mr. Gordon Usrey. If I have the right one he was in my sister's wedding photo in 1950 as a groomsman. I have a photograph of her wedding party in which I was the flower girl (5 yrs. old) and Gordon son was the ring bearer. I apologize if this is the wrong Mr. Usrey. Either way, may Mr. Usrey rest in peace. Please e-mail me if this is the correct Mr. Gordon Usrey.

Message from William Maxwell

I can't come to the service to say goodbye so I will use this website.
Before I start, I would like to say, we will see each other in heaven.

When I got out of the Marine Corp, I joined Ohio Bell as a splicer's helper. I went to the East Exchanged Street garage and reported to Tom Klepper. He promptly put me in his car and took me where two splicers were working together, Burch and Usrey. Burch was set elsewhere and Bill Usrey started my training.

Bill was a very complex man to work with, but fair and gave others the benefit of the dought. He was a highly skilled craftman and he did my job training. It didn't last long because I quit to go the University of Akron. That didn't last long and I went back to Ohio Bell retiring in 1986.

I'm Mary Ann, William Maxwell's daughter. As a family, we loved to listen to dad tell us about his day. Your dad was mentioned often in funny stories. He touched more people than he ever imagined.

Usrey family, your father/grandfather was the nicest man and most thoughtful neighbor anyone could ask for. We have been fortunate to live across the street from him for 50 years. He and Betty will be forever in our hearts. We would like to express our deepest condolences.

Gordon had a long and happy life. That is a blessing. He will be missed. Gordon was always so good to me, Polly. Helped me get a job at Ohio Bell when I graduated from high school. I spent a summer with Betty and Gordon when I was 5 years old. The only thing I really remember is the big birthday party they had for me when I turned 6 years old. He and his wife were special people.
