Albert D. Nipper, 82, passed away January 23, 2014. He was born in Akron to the late Roosevelt and Gwendlyn (Meadows) and lived in Texas for 25 years.
Albert served as an Army Master Sergeant I&R Section during the Korean War and received the Silver Star. He joined the Akron Police Department in 1956 and retired in 1977 as a detective. He was also Past Master of the Joppa Masonic Lodge 666 and past President of the Akron Crime Clinic.
Preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Jean and daughter, Carla Baugher, he is survived by his twin sons, Gary (Lenore) and Steve (Lue); daughters, Cynthe and Cathy (Stanley); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Frank (Almeda); and son-in-law, Tom Baugher.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, 760 E. Market St., with Pastor Ron Shultz officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park, with military honors to be conducted by American Legion # 496. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, January 28, from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Masonic service at 6 p.m. conducted by Adoniram Joppa # 517 F&AM..
