Bessie (Bikilides) Davis
Jesus Christ welcomed HOME, a faithful servant on June 25, 2015. Bessie was born to the late George and Helen (Tsakarides) Bikilides on October 6, 1921 in Akron, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Webster and son Jeffrey; as well as her siblings; Angelo, Christina, Sophie, Harry, John and Paul; beloved niece, Anna Koula. Bessie is survived by her children, Webster (Carol) Arizona and Karen (Clark) Johnson; daughter-in-law, Denise of Howard, OH; grandchildren, Karen, Jericho (Pamela), Heath, Timothy, Joseph (Danette), Jade, Tara and Erica Davis; she was blessed with 11 great-grandchildren with Emmett and Brianna living locally; expecting a great-grandson in October; followed by two nieces, Margaret and Dianne.
Bessie was the matriarch of the Davis family – firm, coupled with an unselfish generosity to countless people in and out of her church, First Congregational of Akron. She could be found in their kitchen setting tables and serving food to name just a few of her services. She navigated many car trips while hosting relatives and friends, but her niece and daughter-in-law invited her on trips overseas.
Bessie and baked goods went hand in hand, whether at P.T.A. meetings, working at the voting booth or sending “care packages” to relatives and friends. Jeffrey fought over her oatmeal raisin cookies. We all raved over her chocolate whipped cream cake and sugar and Greek wedding cookies made with four shots of Brandy! She spent her last 11 years living at the Merriman Nursing Home, countless LPN and S.T.N.A.s responded cheerfully to her sweet “ma-am, ma-am”.
Forget you? NEVER - beloved wife, mother, grand and great-grandma, devoted aunt and faithful friend. Finally, HOME with JESUS Hallelujah!!
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Summa At Home Hospice staff, Ann-Marie Porchowsky (and son), Pastor Kevin, Rene P. and Jennifer Y. They offered her constant love and support.
The family will receive friends, Sunday, July 5th from 2 – 4 p.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home & Chapel, 760 E. Market St. Akron, where services will be on Monday, July 6th at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Robert Gross officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Haven of Rest Ministries, 175 E. Market St. Akron, OH 44308.
