C. William “Bill” Lay, 83, passed away March 5, 2012. He was born in Akron to the late Felix C. and Fannie M. (Hiser), was a US Navy veteran and graduated from the Ohio State University Architectural program.
Bill was a professional architect and designed many local schools, churches and public buildings which are still used today. He was raised in and helped build the Arlington Memorial Baptist Church and later in life, was active at the Free Will Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his son, Christin William Lay; grandsons, Lawrence Damon Lay and Scottie Neal Ewing; and sister, Ruth Andrews. He is survived by his children, C. Martin (Chia), Lawrence G. and Lisa M. Ewing; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and close friends Rick and Ann McClure.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, March 9, 2011 at 12 noon, at the Eckard Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, 760 E. Market St., with Rev. Donald T. Davies officiating. Calling hours will be at the funeral home for two hours prior to the service, from 10 a.m. – 12 noon. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park where military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 281.
