Charles W. Bower, 79, went to be with his Lord October 12, 2013. He was born in Tallmadge to the late Charles A. and Dorothy (Lockwood) and was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Tallmadge High School, was a veteran of the US Army and retired from BF Goodrich with 40 years of service.
Charles was a charter member of Celebration Church, serving as an elder and as “grandpa” for 15 years with the Akron Royal Family Kids Camp. He was also a volunteer counselor in the “Values Program” for the Akron Juvenile Court.
Preceded in death by his sister, Audrey Mae, he is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jeweldeen; children, Cynthia Bower, Anthony Bower and Deborah (Jeff) Covert; grandchildren, Madison and Alex; sister, Helen Gardner; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 12 noon at Celebration Church, 688 Dan St., Akron, OH 44310. Calling hours will be at church on Tuesday, October 15, from 4 – 7 p.m. and for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, from 11 am – 12 noon. Private interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Celebration Church, the Akron Royal Family Kids Camp c/o Celebration Church or Akron General Hospice VNS.
