Clive J. Fisher of Cuyahoga Falls passed away May 22, 2011 at the age of 89. Dad was born in Confidence, West Virginia on December 3, 1921 to the late Eddie and Viola (Hoge) but spent most of his life in Akron where he met and married our mom, Rita, on April 3, 1942.
On Dec. 7, 1942 dad left for basic training. Then it was off to serve in the US Army 94th Infantry in the European Theater. For his service to his country, dad was awarded with several medals.
Upon his return from the war and to support his growing family, dad began his career at Goodyear as a band builder, and retired in 1977 with 31 years service. Together, mom and dad ran The Dart Western Shop. Customers came from near and far to shop at this unique store, making it a very successful business. Eventually though, mom’s health began to fail and it was time to hang up the dancing shoes.
Being proud of his service to his country, dad became known as “The Flag Man”. He always had a pocket full of flag lapel pins he passed out and a trunk full of flags to pass out. He wanted everyone to decorate their yard for the holidays. Although he won’t be riding in the General’s car in the Memorial Day Parade this year, his spirit will be there.
He was also active in several local organizations, including the VFW # 1062, the American Legion Post 281, the Dads of Foreign Service Veterans and the Masons.
Preceded in death by his wife, Rita, and son, PFC Ronald J. Fisher (Vietnam, 1971), dad is survived by his son Ken (Lynn), of Canal Fulton; daughters, Barb (Tony) Tomsello, of Barberton and Carrie (Jeff) Cunningham, of Cuyahoga Falls; 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 27, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, 760 E. Market St., with Rev. Scott Carr officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service, from 1 – 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial offerings to the 94th Infantry Division in care of Harry Helms, Jr. 609 Dogwood Dr., Downingtown, PA 19335.
