Daniel M. Wakeling, 64, passed away September 1, 2015 after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Toronto, Canada, moved to Richfield in 1967 and became a US citizen in March of 1975.
Mr. Wakeling enjoyed playing hockey growing up in Canada and was a 1970 graduate of Revere High School, where he excelled in baseball (he holds the school’s single game strikeout record of 20) and football. He worked at Spector Freight for 18 years before becoming self-employed in the material handling business. He was also a long-time member of The Teamsters and was an avid golfer and traveler.
Preceded in death by his father, Thomas and brother, David, he is survived by his significant other of 6 years, Theresa Zelasko and her children, Nicole (Dustin) and Aaron; mother, Geraldine; brother, Thomas (Amy); children, Robert (Nikole), John (Olivia) and Kathryn (Brian) Herman; grandchildren, Alexis, Mackenzie, Jorie, Grace, John Jr., Zoë and Valerie; and many loving relatives and friends.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home & Chapel, 760 E. Market St. The funeral service will immediately follow calling hours at 7 p.m., with Pastor Steve Bucy officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stewart’s Caring Place, 2955 W.
