Darnell "Stan" Smith

Darnell “Stan” Smith, 86, passed away May 18, 2011. He was born in Akron to the late Claude and Julia (Sutton) Smith and was a lifelong resident. He was an Army veteran of World War II and retired from Tasty Bread. He later worked in the Summit County Weights and Measures Department, was a member of the Firestone Park Prime Timers and belonged to St. Paul Catholic Church.

Preceded in death by his first wife, June, and second wife, Gertrude, he is survived by his son, Dr. David (Candy); daughters, Becky (Edward) Brown, Kathy (Rev. John) Ballinger and Julie (Jim) Shives; step-sons, Thomas (Judith) Brooker and Robert (Susan) Brooker; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of Rockynol for their wonderful care of Stan.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, 760 E. Market St., with Fr. Matthew Ischay officiating. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery . The family will receive friends at the funeral home for ONE HOUR prior to the service, from 10 – 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rockynol Life Care Fund or the Senior Independence Hospice.
