Delores Jean (Twaddle) Mooney-Bartlett, 85, met her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ face-to-face on September 24, 2014. Delores defied the medical odds four times in the last three years, making it clear that God’s purpose for her life was not complete. The lives she inspired each day of her life are testimony to God’s greater plan. She encouraged, loved, trusted, gave to and prayed for everyone she met.
Born in Alliance, Ohio, on June 12, 1929 to Frank and Kathryn (Ketler) Twaddle, Delores graduated from Alliance High School and pursued her dream to be a nurse. She earned her Registered Nursing Degree in 1953 from Akron City Hospital School of Nursing. Her career began as Head Nurse on Medical One at Akron City Hospital until 1962. She went on to work for several Akron-area doctors, including Dr. Raymond Federman and the orthopedic physician group of Smith, DeFreest, Holderness, Weygandt and Hunter. She retired in 1985 from The B.F. Goodrich Medical Center.
Delores met George Mooney on a blind date, fell in love, married in 1949 and had four daughters. She was widowed in 1971. After 27 years as a widow, raising her girls and retiring from nursing, her life was filled again with long-awaited love and companionship when she married Delvin “Bart” Bartlett in 1997. He preceded her in death in 2005.
She joined The Chapel in 1971 and was baptized there to reflect her faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior. At The Chapel, she helped for decades with Workers for Christ, Cords of Three, and greeted people at the welcome desk on Saturdays. Delores had a passion for genealogy and could often be found at her computer working on family trees. She was a member of the Ohio Genealogical Society and the Summit County Chapter OGS; past corresponding secretary for the Akron Area Assoc. of Occupational Health Nurses; a member of the Akron City Hospital School of Nursing Alumni; 707 Tank Battalion Association 5th Armored Division and Goodyear Retirement Club; and treasurer of the URW Firestone Local 7 Retirement Club for 16 years.
Delores was preceded in death by her first husband, George, and second husband, Delvin; her mother and father; and brother, Dennis Twaddle. She will be missed by her daughters, Colleen Childress (David) of Mogadore; Cindy Berry (John) of Bath; Carol Sloan (Robert) of Roseville, Calif.; and Cathryn Davies (Matt) of Brentwood, Calif.; her beloved grandchildren Kimberly Timms (Todd); Kristen Childress; Luke, Autumn, Grace and Ben Berry; Joseph, Abigail and Jillian Davies; great-grandsons, Nathan and Preston Timms; brothers Harold Twaddle (Violet); Alan Twaddle (Karen); sisters-in-law, Cindy Twaddle and Phyllis Johannes; brother-in-law Glenn Glass; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at noon on Saturday, September 27, 2014. The family will receive friends for TWO HOURS prior to the service from 10 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home, 760 E. Market St., Akron. Interment at Lakewood Cemetery.
