Cuyahoga Falls resident and 1981 graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School, attended Kent State University for seven years.

Donald was preceded in death by father, Donald Robert Miller; mother, Florence Miller (Rypell); and sister, Amy Miller; survived by sisters, Gerry Miller (Ed Lenek), and Pam O’Brien (Gary Felton); brother-in-law, Jeff Oxley; nephew, Zachary O’Brien; nieces, Megan Stone, and Caitlin Davis; great-nieces, Ruby and Ella Stone and great-nephews, Andrew and Christopher Davis; and ex-wife Sandra Holata Diehl.  Special Thank You to his good friend Mike Mulhearn for all your love and support in his final days.

The world lost one of the truest artists it has ever known last week. Donald R. Miller II passed away May 17 after a short battle with a very aggressive form of lung cancer. Donald dedicated his life to his art. He was a prolific maker of paintings, drawings, collage, sculpture, installation and performance. Don also loved to study art history. He could talk at length about everyone from Caravaggio to Jeff Koons. His favorite artists were Jackson Pollock and Joseph Beuys.

Donald founded several art galleries and conceptual groups including The Contemporary Arts Project, Guerilla Art Galleries, Chapter 11 and A.R.M. Artists Resisting Mindlessness. Along with ex-wife Sandra Holata Diehl he started the Downtown Akron Art Walk in 2006. He also shared his love of art with middle school students by developing artist in residency programs at Bolich Middle School in 1996 and 1997.

Don was an avid animal rights advocate and environmentalist.

Don’s family and friends are planning a gathering to celebrate his life and work that will be open to the public this summer. He left behind a vast collection of art that deserves to live on in his memory. Paintings, drawings, collage and small sculptures will be available for anyone who would like them, donations will be greatly appreciated to help cover his final expenses.

More of Don’s portfolio can be seen on his website: www.holatamiller.com and the Contemporary Arts Project Gallery’s Facebook page. Please share your thoughts and memories on his Tribute Wall at www.eckardbaldwin.com
