Donna Jean (Starkey) Nitz, 75, left this earthly life from her home in Akron, OH on Saturday, December 20, 2014 to go to her eternal home in Heaven. She was born in Eckhart, MD to the late Albert and Mildred (Myers) Starkey, and was a Buchtel High School graduate.
Donna retired from Haven of Rest Ministries in 2005 after 22 ½ years of dedicated service as a Housemother and Supervisor at the Harvest Home, where she was known to the children and their mothers as “Grandma Donna” and “The Hugger”. She brought joy to everyone she met and will be greatly missed by all, including her “furry” friends.
She waits for her beloved husband of 56 years, Albert W.; her beloved children, Sally Jo and Daryl; her brother, Dale Starkey; sister, Mary Kay (John) Warlop; and many other loving relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank the kind staff of Heartland Hospice for their care in Donna’s final days.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 12:30 p.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home and Chapel, 760 E. Market St., with Curt Thomas III officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 am – 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven of Rest Ministries 175 E. Market St., Akron, OH 44305.
