Dorene Hanna Boyer Schurman

Dorene Schurman, 81, went home to be with the Lord peacefully Sunday, December 8, 2024 at The Briarwood Assisted Living in Stow, Ohio.

Born and raised in Logansport, IN, she graduated from Logansport High School in 1961 and Marion College (now Indiana Wesleyan University) in 1965 with a B.S. in Elementary Education. After having taught school in Indiana and Iowa for ten years, she was employed in Akron, OH by Church of the Master United Methodist (now Family of Faith UMC) as Teacher/Director of the East Market Day Nursery from 1974 to 2001 and as Church Custodian from 1998 to 2011. She also worked for Canal Pointe LTC facility from 2001-2009 as a housekeeper.

Preceded in death by parents, Gerald and Jean Hanna, and by husbands, Jim Boyer and Roy Schurman, she is survived by brother, Bill Hanna (Linda) of Indiana; daughter, Jennifer Schneider (Rich and Jessica) of Illinois; and son, Mark Boyer (Beth and Caitlin, David, Shaun, and Drew) of Alabama.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Family of Faith United Methodist Church, 800 E. Market St., Akron, OH 44305 with Pastor Michael Farmer officiating. Friends may call at church for one hour prior to the service, from 10 – 11 am. Interment will follow at Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio. Memorials may be made in Dorene's name to the FFUMC Scholarship Fund.

Dorene has "fought the good fight, has finished her course and has kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for her a crown of righteousness which the Lord the righteous judge shall give her at that day; and not to her only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." II Timothy 4:7-8
