Dottie, 92, in the spirit in which she lived, passed away December 19, 2014.
Born in Akron on March 19, 1922, Dottie lived her entire life in the Akron area. She wore many career hats during her life; and lived up to her nickname of “social organizer”. Until the end she lived life to the fullest.
At 16, she was a professional dancer; and there is no doubt she tapped her way through heavens gate. Don, her loving husband of 63 years, was waiting with open arms.
Dottie leaves behind to continue her love of life, daughter Brenda (Denny, who she loved as a son) Lowe; son Howie (Gayle Shankel, Lynn Bragg) Shankel; grandchildren, Jennifer (Eric) Wiseman and Trevor, Danny and Heather Shankel; great-grandchildren, Courtney Kozusko and Zachary Wiseman; favorite niece, Nancy Bouman and a circle of dear friends.
The family is thankful for Dottie’s enthusiastic embrace of assisted living. A warm thank you to all those at Danbury Woods and Mulberry Gardens who made it possible for “mom” to live her life to the fullest.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 26, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home & Chapel, 760 E. Market St., Akron, OH 44305. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service, from 12 – 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Eckard Baldwin in memory of Dottie.
