Douglas L. Brobst, 85, passed away September 30, 2011. He was born in Akron to the late Clyde and Margaret (Greer) and was a lifelong resident. He was an Army veteran of World War II, earning two bronze stars and the victory medal, and he retired from BF Goodrich with 45 years of service. Mr. Brobst was devoted to his family and loved animals and sports.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Clyde; sister, Betty; step-father, Raymond Bauer; and aunt, Ann Greer. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Leona; children, Douglas Jr. (Jeanne), Patricia (Terry) Veney, Betty (Mike) Lavery and Sandy (Albert) Hubener; grandchildren, Wendy, Scott (Lynn), Carrie (Jeff), Christy (Lonnie), Melissa (James), Renee (Todd), Mickey (Tara) and Kori (Kyle); 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Jack (Andre); sister-in-law, Marie Russell; and many loving relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, 760 E. Market St. Interment with military honors to follow at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 4, fro 4 – 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gospel Crusaders Church, 2240 Goodyear Blvd., Akron, OH 44305.
