Douglas E. Merideth Sr., 63, passed away suddenly on January 8, 2009. Born in Akron on August 28, 1946, he was a graduate of Buchtel High School (class of 1964) and the University of Akron. He served in the United States Army from 1966 – 1969, and was a firefighter for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 31 years, retiring in 2002. He was the long-serving president of the Goodyear Camping Club, and his biggest joys in life were his grandkids, camping and Disney World.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Ray and Mary (Smith) Merideth, and his brother, Thomas Ray Merideth Jr. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Beverly (nee Buck); sons, Douglas Jr. (Robin) and Dave (Jane); grandchildren, Ava, Sean, Evan, Emma and Jaden; brother, Kenneth (Georgiana) Merideth, of Osteen, FL; sisters-in-law, Penny Buck and Jenny (Dean) Knight; brothers-in-law, James (Debra) Buck and Jeff (Ella) Buck; and many other loving relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at 11 a.m., at the Eckard Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, 760 E. Market St., with Rev. Karen Hartley officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, January 11, from 4 – 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Tallmadge Fire Dept., 85 W. Overdale Dr., Tallmadge, OH 44278 or the charity of your choice.
