Edward C. McDevitt

Edward C. McDevitt, 74, passed away peacefully at home July 16, 2026. He was born in Hudson, OH to the late John and Ruth (Ozmun) McDevitt, was a 1970 Nordonia High School graduate and a proud veteran of the US Navy. In his younger years, Edward owned a hair salon and later retired from the US Post Office with over 15 years of service. He was postmaster at several locations, a job he truly loved.

Edward enjoyed roller coasters, cruises and slot machines. He was also extremely close with his beloved pet dogs, which for many years were miniature schnauzers, and whom he affectionately called his “little girls”. He will be deeply missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his husband, Arthur “Soupie”. He is survived by his children, April (William) Callaway and Edward (Jasmine) McDevitt; grandchildren, Derek, Johnny, William, Edward, Edward and Amanda; 4 great-grandchildren; and 5 siblings.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2026 at 11 a.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home and Chapel, 760 E. Market St., Akron, OH 44305 with Chaplain Bill Lyons officiating. Calling hours will be at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service, from 10 – 11 a.m. with burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hudson, OH, where military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 281 and the US Navy..
