Forrest J. Stein, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 10, 2017. He was born in Akron to the late Forest and Dorothy (Spinel) Stein and was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather.
Forrest was an East High School graduate, served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and earned a bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Akron. He retired from the Akron Board of Education after 30 years of service, worked at the Children’s Home and at the Cuyahoga Falls library. He was also a life-long member of The Chapel on Fir Hill, where he taught Sunday School for 25 years and worked in the library.
In addition to his parents, Forrest was preceded in death by his sister, Beverly Lawson. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruth; daughters, Janice (Greg) Warder and Christine (Phil) Adkins; and grandchildren, Rachel, Lauren and Matthew Warder and Olivia and Emily Adkins.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2017 from 10 - 11 a.m. in the Memorial Chapel at The Chapel on Fir Hill, 135 Fir Hill, Akron, OH 44304. The funeral service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Stan Grizzle officiating, and his final resting place will be Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Camp Carl, 8054 Calvin Rd., Ravenna, OH 44266.
