Gene H. Hamrick, 72, of Suffield, Ohio passed away suddenly Wednesday, July 4, 2012. Born December 3, 1939 in Webster Springs, West Virginia to A.P. and Edith (King) Hamrick, he was the youngest of three brothers, moving to Ohio at the age of 11.
Gene spent the majority of his working life contributing to advancements in the packaging industry. He began working as a traveling service technician and later as a manager at George J. Meyer in Akron, Ohio. In 1975 he and his brother Luther “Red” Hamrick founded Hamrick Manufacturing & Service, Inc., based in Suffield, Ohio. Gene and Red oversaw the growth of the company during the past 37 years, which now includes Hamrick packaging machines in installations throughout North and South America, Europe, and as far away as Australia and Nigeria. Until the day of his passing, Gene could be found in his office each day, participating in the continuing growth of the company.
Gene loved the outdoors and enjoyed his getaway cabin in southern Ohio, wintering in Florida, and spending time with his wife and family. A loving and dedicated husband, he and his wife Maudie (Duncan) Hamrick would have celebrated 50 years of marriage in October 2012.
Gene is survived by his loving wife, Maudie; brothers, Jim Hamrick and Luther “Red” Hamrick; and many nieces, nephews and friends who loved him and will miss him dearly.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, 760 E. Market St., with Pastor David Rosenberger officiating. Interment at Northlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 10, from 4 - 7 p.m. as well as one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, from 9 -10 a.m.
