George “Ron” Ronald Lamb Jr., 89, passed away peacefully February 14, 2013 following a long illness.
Born April 10, 1923 in Akron, where he was a lifelong resident, he graduated from Garfield High School in June 1941.
With his parents’ consent, he joined the Navy, proudly serving on the USS Cleveland in the South Pacific during World War II. While on leave in Philadelphia, he met his wife of 47 years, Jewel P. (Marine) Lamb.
Following his distinguished military service, he joined the Akron Police Department as a patrolman in January 1948. Eventually, he went to work as a security officer for B.F. Goodrich in Akron, retiring from the plant in 1986.
He was a member of the Firestone Park United Methodist Church, and was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason with the Mayfarer Lodge #789 since 1961.
Survivors include four daughters, Kathleen Buckwalter, Sandra Perich, Valerie (Steve) Marone, and Deborah (Robert) Cummins; eight grandchildren, Karen Abbott, Deborah (Michael) Williams, Pamela (Matt) Schumacher, Marian (James) Greer, Christina (John) Macejko, Stephanie Buckwalter, Ronald (Rebecca) Perich, and Kenneth Buckwalter Jr.; seven great-grandchildren, Cayden and Kyler Schumacher, Lucy and Ruby Macejko, and Dylan, Emily and Haley Perich. Watching his great-grandchildren play became his greatest joy. He also is survived by his sisters, Marian Lamb and J. Colleen Morris.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jewel, in May 1992; his mother, Ada E. Lamb (Clark) in June 1995; and his father, George Lamb Sr. in July 1965.
Calling hours will be held from 10 - 11 a.m. on Monday, February 18, 2013 at the Eckard Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, 760 E. Market St. The funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Joel Cochran officiating. Interment at Glendale cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 281.
