Helen H. (Hastings) Stahler

February 6, 1915 — June 20, 2012

Helen H. Stahler, 97, passed away June 20, 2012. She was born in Kent, OH to the late Louis and Lena (Timbie) Hastings and served her country as a Captain in the Womens Army Corps during World War II. She earned a bachelors degree from Kent State University as well as a Masters in Library Science from Case Western Reserve, and enjoyed a career as a librarian in Akron for over 40 years.

Helen was extremely active in the community. She was a long-time member of Christ United Methodist Church, was an original founder of Akron’s Project LEARN, and belonged to Altrusa International, Alpha Gamma Delta and The College Club.

Preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, and brother, John (Alyce) Hastings, she is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Mike) Kray and Karen (David) Hodges; 5 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many loving relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 380 Mineola Ave., Akron, OH 44320 with Rev. Debbie Nees officiating. Calling hours will be held at the church for one hour prior to the service, from 10 – 11 a.m. with burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ United Methodist Church.
