Helen Riggle (nee Castleberry) died in Barberton, Ohio on June 29, 2016 after a long illness. She was born October 23, 1928 in Jonesboro, Arkansas to Drucilla (nee Diamant) and John Castleberry. At age fourteen she moved to Barberton where a handsome dancer named Robert Riggle lived next door with his family. They wed when she was seventeen, and were married for seventy years.
Helen graduated from Barberton High School. She took courses at the University of Akron and worked as an Accounting Supervisor at Babcock and Wilcox. She had one child, Rebecca Nassar (formerly Nero) whom she often referred to as her miracle.
Helen is predeceased by Aaron Nero, grandson; Kenneth Cruthers, nephew; and Al Cruthers, brother-in-law. She is survived by Robert Riggle, husband; Rebecca Nassar (formerly Nero), daughter; Chuck Nassar, son-in-law; Sarah Nero, granddaughter, and children Stephen and Ellie; Amy Nassar, granddaughter, and daughter Bella; David (Jessica) Nassar, grandson, and daughter Corrine; Sharma Cruthers, sister-in-law; Amy Williamson, niece, and family; Melissa Hoyle, niece, and family; Jerry Shaufelberger, half-brother, and family; and Susan Lette, half-sister and family.
Helen will be remembered for her creativity, strength, and humor. She sang and painted beautifully, knitted skillfully, and dressed stylishly. She sewed clothes in the latest Vogue patterns. She was as capable with a computer as she was with a rototiller. She had great fortitude, but also a playful silliness. Her cooking and baking were shared with many, as was her warmth. She chose to walk on the bright side of the street. She believed that our job on earth was to love one another, and her example will not be forgotten.
A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Wedgewood United Methodist Church, 2350 Wedgewood Dr., Akron, OH 44312, with luncheon to follow.
