James A. "Red" Carson, 92, passed away November 7, 2016. He was born in Athens, GA to the late Jesse and Ada and was an Akron resident his entire life.
In 1943, "Red" worked under Sheriff Bob Smith as a detective with the Summit County Sheriff Department for many years, along side of Bob Campbell, Sherman Gandee, and Bill Hunt. He also worked security for the Akron Board of Education, during that time, Mr. Conrad Ott would become superintendent and learn of the vandalism and property damage costs to buildings; which in turn, prompted Red and Sheriff Bob Campbell would start the School Patrol which became very cost effective. It was during that time that Red also worked part-time for Akron Ambulance, Akron P & S Ambulance, Akron Emergency Ambulance; but according to Red - his favorite job was working with the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home. Red was proud to be a 32nd degree Mason with the Akron-Coventry Masonic Lodge and spent 30 years working out at Body Builders "Pep WAHL" in Akron.
Red leaves behind many loving cousins.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Hillside Memorial Park, 1025 Canton Rd.
