James L. “Big Jim” Dickerhoff, 76, passed away January 17, 2015. Born in Akron to the late Robert L. Sr. and Emily Frances (Saddler) Dickerhoff, he was a graduate of Springfield High School and a proud US Army veteran.
Jim retired from Goodyear with 44 years of service and was a member of Calvary Apostolic Church. He was also a bus driver for the Tallmadge and Kent school districts and placed 2nd in the state bus driving rodeo. He loved camping at Cherokee Park in Brimfield and traveling with his wife in their RV.
Jim may be best remembered for his love of music and of the Lord. He grew up playing the guitar and banjo in church, attended various open mic nights and even had his own band. He will be deeply missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Kathleen, and brother, Robert Jr. He is survived by his daughters, Paula (Gary) Aurand and Peggy (Tim) Coyne; grandsons, Evan, Alex and Josh; sisters, Sherill (Gus) Thompson and Diana (Frank) Battles; dear friends Carl Bullock and Jack Evans; and many other loving relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Calvary Apostolic Church, 2693 Nesbitt Ave., Akron, OH 44314 with Pastor Nelson Carter officiating. Calling hours will be for one hour prior to the service, from 1 – 2 p.m. and a private burial will be held at Tallmadge Cemetery.
