James Kalavity, 80, passed away August 22, 2011. He was born in Akron to the late Nicolas and Marie (Morches) Kalavity and was a lifelong resident. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, retired from AGMC as a computer systems analyst and was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church.
Preceded in death by his son, Ronald, he is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley; children, Michael (Christine), Timothy (Tina), David (Monica) and Laura (William) Newberry; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Regina Chema; and brother, Jerry.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, August 26, 2011, at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2603 Benton St., with Fr. Michael Williamson officiating. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, where American Post #281 will conduct military honors. Calling hours will be held at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home, 760 E. Market St., on Friday prior to the service from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.
