James D. Wheeler, 72, passed away March 12 after a courageous battle with cancer, with his family by his side. Born in Poseyville, Indiana, he lived most of his life in the Akron area. Mr. Wheeler served his country for 20 years in the Ohio National Guard, and attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in 1991 with 30 years of service in the rim plant and as a tire builder. James was also an active member of the Metro Park Bike Patrol for over 15 years.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Ann (McEndree). He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Rosalie; sons, James (Susan), Christopher and Reid (Pam) Gallion; daughters, Melinda Gittins, Cathy Hartung (fiancé Jeff Grell), Rebecca (Bob) Donahue, Susan (David) Lampe and Mary (Jeff) Kuster; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be Thursday, March 17, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., at the Eckard Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, 760 E. Market St. with Rev. Randy Baker officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 16, from 6 - 8 p.m.
