Jeanne Marie Huber, of Cuyahoga Falls, passed away on October 6, 2012 at the age of 83 from complications of ALS. She lived with her illness the same as she lived her life, with grace, dignity, and a smile on her face.
She was born May 19, 1929, the daughter of Oscar and Gladys (Huston) Case, and was raised in Akron. She attended South High School and then The University of Akron, where she met the love of her life, Gordon, at a sorority picnic. She thought “he looked interesting,” and they married six months later. She graduated with a B.A. in Sociology, and soon after they started their family. She was the epitome of motherhood: encouraging, supportive, and kindhearted.
In addition to being a wonderful wife, mother, and homemaker, Jeanne read avidly and was accomplished at knitting and counted cross stitch, creating numerous cherished keepsakes. In addition, she cut out thousands of quilt squares for those in need, was a good-humored camper in her younger years, and hiked so many fall hiking spree trails that her shields would not all fit on her hiking staff. She was a founding member of her neighborhood canasta club and played for over 50 years, in addition to playing bridge with church friends. Prior to her death, she was the longest living member of First Presbyterian Church of Akron, having joined on March 30, 1941.
Jeanne is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 63 years, Gordon; sons, Dr. Robert Huber and Dr. Thomas Huber; daughter, Nancy (Timothy) Coerver; three step-grandchildren and a step great-grandson.
Services will be Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at 11:30 a.m., at the Eckard Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, 760 E. Market St. Interment Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, ninety minutes prior to the service, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
