Joel Rivera-Hernandez

Joel Rivera-Hernandez, 46, passed away November 19, 2023. He was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, moved to the United States and joined the US Army. He worked for the Akron Public Schools at both Mason Elementary and Rimer Elementary, where he was loved by the students.

He is survived by his parents, Nydia (Jorge) Rivera-Hernandez; children, Ryan Chris Rivera, Kira Belknap and Nayara Rivera; brother, Carlos Luis Rivera; and long-time significant other, Dawn Ferrell and her daughter. Shawntiara Shaulis.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2023 from 12 – 2 p.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home and Chapel, 760 E. Market St., Akron, OH 44305. A time of sharing will immediately follow at 2 p.m.
