John Edward Oddo passed away peacefully in Neuquen, Argentina at the age of 69.
John was born October 22, 1946 in Stow, Ohio. He graduated from Stow High School in 1964, and went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree from Akron University, a master’s degree from the University of Toledo, and a doctorate in geochemistry from prestigious Rice University, where he taught and worked for many years. His career in water chemistry and oil permitted him to enjoy living and working in Europe, Africa and South America, as well as the continental United States. John was one of the world’s most renowned experts in the field of radioactive materials.
Preceded in death by his infant daughter, Tracy, John is survived by his wife of 15 years, Liliana Mendez Dziadek; his mother Ruth Craft; children, Devin (Stephanie Petroff), Rochelle (Ken) Oedemann and Stephanie (Drew) Bogdan; grandchildren, Zachary, Mallory, Erin, Audrey, Ryan and Theodore; brothers, David (Marla) and Mike (Joyce); sisters, Rebecca Lallathin and Ann Tracy (Kevin); and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, February 26, 2016, from 2-4 p.m. at Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home, 760 E. Market Street, Akron, Ohio 44305. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
