John J. Seibel Sr., 75, passed away January 16, 2011 after a short battle with cancer.
He was born in Akron on March 19, 1935. One of eight children born to Joseph, Sr. and Anna (Gette) Seibel, he resided in Firestone Park for most of his life. He was a 1953 graduate of St. Mary Catholic High School and a 1952 member of the Beacon Journal All-City Football Team. He retired from Ohio Edison after 42 years of service and was a member of the Southeast Church of the Nazarene.
John was known for his beautiful yard, love of the outdoors, delicious cooking, love of family and incomparable wit.
Preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Donna, and sons, Scott Seibel and Bobby Schmeltzer, he is survived by sons, John M. Seibel, Michael Schmeltzer and Johnny Joseph Seibel, Jr., and many loved ones.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2011, at 7 p.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, 760 E. Market St., with Rev. Nan Taylor officiating. Calling hours will be at the funeral home for three hours prior to the service, from 4 – 7 p.m.
