John W. Sloan, 79, passed away February 28, 2026. He was born in Akron to the late Granville Osco and Verla (Black) Sloan and was a Garfield High School graduate. John was a proud veteran of the United States Army and worked for many years at O’Neil’s.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary, Sallie, Max, Ray “Sonny” and Sheila. He is survived by his children, John II (Tracy) Sloan, Jamie (Heather) Sloan and Katie Dull; grandchildren, Addison, Hayley, Matthew, Aydin, Jordan, Logan and Raygan; sister, Joyce Maione; special niece, Missie; and special cousin, Virginia.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Park United Methodist Church, 2308 24th St SW, Akron, OH 44314 with Pastor David Haydu officiating. The family will receive friends at church for one hour prior to the service, from 10 - 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will be Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at 2:15 p.m. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd., Seville, OH 44273.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home, 760 E. Market St., Akron, OH 44305 to assist the family with funeral expenses.
