Julia Ann (Foltz) Eckard

April 3, 1918 — April 14, 2016

Julia Ann (Foltz) Eckard, 98, died peacefully at home at 5 p.m. on April 14, 2016. She was born in Akron and was a lifetime resident.

Julia always felt fortunate and blest to be the daughter of Marie and Ralph Foltz, the sister of Daniel E. Foltz and Maryjane Foltz Gwinner, the wife of R. Willis Eckard, and the mother of their five children. Family, friends and church were her life and it was a happy and good one. She loved children and was the proud grandmother of Joanne Murr Burtt, Wendy Murr (Andrew) Topp, Jonathan, Stephanie and Raymond Eckard and Luke and Lyra Stephenson; great-grandmother of Marissa and Spencer Burtt and Brennan and Heidi Topp; step-grandmother of Laura (Michael) Penny and Eric Hill; and step great-grandmother of Lilah and Max Penny.

Julia was predeceased by her husband, parents, sister and brother and their spouses, along with her brothers and sisters-in-law. Also, daughter-in-law, Sharon H. Eckard. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Eckard, John Eckard, Michiko Eckard, Thomas and Theresa Eckard - and daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Joseph Murr and Amy and Grant Stephenson; as well as many well loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Family of Faith UMC, 800 E. Market St., Akron, OH 44305, with Rev. Ron Shultz officiating. Friends may call at church for one hour prior to the service, from 10 – 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Julia’s special request was that anyone desiring to do so, please contribute to the Church Scholarship Fund.
