Kenyon L. Barr

February 6, 1956 — May 31, 2015

Kenyon’s childhood was spent in Bradford, Pennsylvania.  He loved to tell stories of his life there with family and friends.  In 1978, he met Tom, with whom he would live the rest of his life.  Ken pursued many interests with an intense zeal – gardening, collecting, astrology, genealogy, breeding birds, spirituality.  He had a unique love for the performance arts and was happiest during his years studying and working in the theatre in Bradford and Pittsburgh.  He was devoted to his mother, Alma, and moved to Akron in 1990 to be closer to her after his father died.  He also enjoyed a special bond with his sister, Linda, who lived in the Akron area.  Ken lived with the challenges of early-onset Alzheimer’s starting in his late 40’s.  He lived at home with Tom and his dogs until 2013, when he moved to a nursing facility.  He and Tom continued to see each other daily in the facility.

Kenyon was preceded in death by his parents, Kenyon H. and Alma and his beloved sister, Linda Peloquin.  He is survived by his partner, Tom Swinscoe; brothers, Larry, Gary and Daniel; sister Deanna Pelton; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Thank you to the nurses, nursing assistants and other staff at Hickory Ridge Nursing Facility for their care and support during Kenyon’s final two years.  Thank you to the staff at Summa City Hospital for their care and guidance in his final days.   A service to Kenyon’s memory will be held at Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron, 3300 Morewood Drive in Fairlawn on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at 3 p.m., with Rev. Tim Temerson officiating.
