Larry L. Whiddon

January 15, 1943 — December 7, 2011

Larry Lee Whiddon, 68, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 7, 2011.

Larry was a proud graduate of Garfield High School, Class of 1961 and the University of Akron, where he majored in Biology.  Larry taught at various middle schools in Akron before joining The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company.  Larry enjoyed the work he did at Goodyear and made many good friends over the years.  He retired with nearly 40 years of service.

Larry was an avid outdoorsman.  In his younger days, Larry loved to golf, fish and hunt.  Larry loved the woods of Pennsylvania, where he hunted for over 50 years.  He built a strong network of friends over the years and they became more like family than friends.  Larry spent the last week of his life doing what he loved best – being in the woods of PA.

Preceded in death by his mother, Doris Whiddon and father, Erle Whiddon, he leaves behind his wife of 29 years, Barb; children, Kyle (at home), Cathy Gustaevel (Greg), Jeff (Rita), Eric and David (Laurie); sister, Fran White; brothers, Paul and Roger (Shirley); and several grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 3 p.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, 760 E. Market St., with Rev. Ron Shultz officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 12 - 3 p.m.

Larry will be remembered as a man of great character with firm beliefs about right and wrong.  He recognized his many blessings and strongly believed in helping those less fortunate.  If you so desire, condolences can be sent in Larry’s name to The Haven of Rest, 175 E. Market St. Akron, OH 44305.
