Leonard Cheslock, 70, passed away August 25, 2013. He was born in Cleveland to the late John and Jean (Zajac) Cheslock and was a South High School graduate. Raised in a Polish neighborhood, he was proud of his heritage.
Len earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Kent State University and moved to Akron in 1970, where he taught at Henry Elementary, Seiberling Elementary, and Goodyear Middle schools. He was also an assistant high school football coach at East, Firestone and Hoban.
In retirement, he volunteered for many years at F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm and Weathervane Community Playhouse. He also enjoyed exercising and socializing at Bally Fitness and the Cuyahoga Falls Natatorium. Len was known for his tremendous sense of humor and his ability to talk to anyone. He will be deeply missed.
Preceded in death by his granddaughter, Ella Cheslock, he is survived by his wife of 47 years, Gail (Cornelius); children, John Cheslock (Deborah Anderson) and Angela (Kevin) Martin; grandchildren, Zachary and Samuel Cheslock and Abigail and Eric Martin; brothers, Jerry (Sandy) and Edward (Alice); and many other loving relatives and friends.
An informal celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 1:30pm, at Weathervane Community Playhouse. Attendees are encouraged to dress casual and wear bright colors, which Len loved. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Weathervane Community Playhouse (1301 Weathervane Lane, Akron, OH 44313) or Metro Parks Foundation (975 Treaty Line Road, Akron, OH 44313) in Leonard’s name.
