Luba Lillian (Nicola) Gardner

May 14, 1923 — September 20, 2015

Luba Lillian Gardner (aka Mama Lou), 92, passed away peacefully with her family by her side September 20, 2015. She was born in Moscow, Russia to the late Nisan and Esther (Daniel) Nicola and immigrated to the US at the age of 3.

Lou was proud to serve her country during World War II as a welder in the New Jersey shipyards. She also worked at Brown Derby for 20 years and at O’Neill’s. She was an active member of Wedgewood United Methodist Church for 58 years and loved music, flowers, crafts and cooking.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry (Pete); and siblings, Youhanna, Johan, Hanna, Johnnie, Helen and Miriam. She is survived by her children, Esther (David) Gardner-Porter, Claire Ann (John) Voiers and Harry (Champ) Jr. (Meredith); special daughter, Judy White Simora; special cousin, Katherine Pintak; grandson, Daniel (Christy); great-grandchildren, Cody and Hayley; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 25, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Wedgewood United Methodist Church, 2350 Wedgewood Drive, Akron, OH 44312 with Rev. Joseph Burkhardt officiating. Calling hours will be at church for two hours prior to the service, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. with burial at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wedgewood United Methodist.
