Margaret A. Kelley died May 8, 2016 after a long decline into dementia. How sad. BUT, on May 8, 2016, Margaret Kelley entered heaven and no longer has uncertainty or loss – praise God!
Margaret was born 95 years ago as Margaret Ava Pfost on March 14, 1921 to Boyd and Ora (Chase) Pfost. She was the youngest of six children, all of whom have predeceased her. She married E. Walter Kelley on September 27, 1941 and shared life with him for 70 years until his passing in September 2011. They had three children, Terry (Donna) in Colorado, Larry (Diane) in Akron, and Susan (David) Wirshup in California; as well as six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Margaret was active in The Chapel in Akron since the 1940’s, teaching Sunday school, serving on the Missionary Committee and many other activities. Margaret loved to work and had an amazing work ethic. She had a keen and active intelligence. As a child she studied the dictionary in order to improve her vocabulary. She brought this intelligence to her work where she enjoyed serving as secretary to Conrad Ott, Superintendent of Akron Public Schools for many years.
The family expresses its appreciation to the staff at The Merriman where Margaret lived for her last four years, to Melody Shea and her staff who helped Walter and Margaret in their need and to Harbor Light Hospice for the care and comfort they provided.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2016 from 10 - 11 a.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Funeral Home, 760 E. Market St. with the funeral service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park.
