Nancy C. Hanes, 91, formerly of Akron, passed away September 29, 2016 in San Antonio, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald, and sister Julia, who died at a young age.
She is survived by her sister, Naomi McIntyre, of Akron; children, Martha Panter, Ernie (Mary Ann), Tim, and Patty Allen (Chuck) all of Akron, Tom of Tempe, Arizona, and Jeff, of San Antonio; niece, Jill Dauphars, of Mogadore; grandchildren, Nancy, Monty, Steve, Nathan, Tiffany, and Dustin; great-grandchildren, Thomas, Eric, Ava, Naomi, and Makenzi; and four great-great grandchildren.
Nancy and Gerald moved to San Antonio in 1977 after Gerald retired from the Postal Service. In their 61 years of marriage, they traveled to all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Nancy was active in the church in San Antonio, where she had been a leader in the Young at Heart group. Nancy had been an Avon Representative for 60 years in Akron and San Antonio.
Nancy's claim to fame was appearing on a 1995 Upper Deck baseball card with Ken Griffey, Jr. as a result of winning a national contest.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Tallmadge First Church of God, 464 Northeast Ave. with Rev. Josh Deeter officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Tallmadge First Church of God or a charity of your choice. Private interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
