Nola F. Baumgardner, 82, passed away November 4, 2013. She was born in Akron to the late Ernie and Thelma Swope and was a 1949 East High graduate.
Active in the community, she had worked as a Senior Director for the Akron Parks and Recreation Bureau, was a 44-year participant in the Akron Metro hiking spree and was a member of the Hiking Club. She was also a long-time Girl Scout Leader, enjoyed making crafts and participating in craft shows, and loved roses, bird feeding, football and baseball.
Nola was a member of Family of Faith United Methodist Church, serving as president of Rachel’s Circle. She was also a former member of Wedgewood United Methodist Church and Faith United Methodist.
Preceded in death by sisters-in-law, Billie and Doris Swope, she is survived by her husband of 59 years, Homer; children, Rodney (Diane), Dave (Janet) and Jan (Ben) Shepherd; granddaughter, Renee; brothers, Robert and Norman Swope; sister, Marcia Heller; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Eckard Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, 760 E. Market St., with Rev. Ron Shultz officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service, from 12 – 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Family of Faith United Methodist Church, 800 E.
