Norma J. Singleton, 91, passed away June 2, 2011. Mrs. Singleton was born in Akron to John W & Aza Dawkins on September 19, 1919. She took pride in her family and her genealogy, which she worked on extensively. Norma was a 29 year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a charter member of the Joshua Stow Chapter. She was also a member of Colonial Dames XVII Century, Ohio Genealogical Society, Rebekahs in Greentown, O.E.S. Delta Chapter #539, Daughters of Mokanna #27, & NARF.
Norma was a caring mother, grandmother, and wife and her generous heart went out to the community as well. She was always ready to help someone, even with her busy schedule as a secretary at the Veterans Administration for 14 years and raising five children. She retired from Government employment after 28 years service.
Proceeded in death by her husband of 55 years, Raymond A., her sisters and brothers, and great granddaughter Andrea Hamer. She is survived by daughters, Carol (Johnnie) Jones of Canton, Janet (Don) Davis of Akron, and Sharon Rae (Fred) Snowden of Akron; sons, Larry (Fannie) Singleton of North Myrtle Beach, and Wesley (Debbie) Singleton of Malvern. She also leaves 15 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 6 great great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be Monday, June 6, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., at the Eckard Baldwin Sanctuary Chapel, 760 E. Market St., with David Velickoff officiating. Interment Hillside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, June 5, from 3 to 6 p.m.
